Greek and Roman Studies Graduate Begins New Position at Canadian Conservation Institute

Greek and Roman Studies graduate Jonah Halili, who was a graduate intern at the Getty Institute in 2023-2024, will take up a new position as Assistant Scientist at the Canadian Conservation Institute in Ottawa.

Jonah credits his degree in Greek and Roman Studies with helping him obtain his new position: “The Greek and Roman Studies department at McMaster was very good to me. I was juggling courses between this department and in Chemistry for most of my time during my undergraduate studies, and the faculty in Greek and Roman Studies was always very supportive. I learned so much and even though I’m focusing more on scientific research these days, the skills that I’ve built through my Greek and Roman Studies undergraduate courses, such as logical reasoning, argumentation, and critical thinking, have served me well. It’s impossible to understate just how much my writing and research skills improved from my time in Greek and Roman Studies. My experience as an undergraduate student on the Villa di Tito excavations in central Italy were what introduced me to the fields of conservation and conservation science. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be where I am today were it not for the Greek and Roman Studies department at McMaster University.”
